Parts of a Computer Explained
Monitor, CPU, RAM, storage, keyboard and mouse โ what each one does in simple words.
A computer is a team of small parts working together. You do not need to open it or fix it. You just need to know the name of each part and what its job is. That is enough to sound confident in any office.
The parts you can see and touch
- Monitor โ the screen. This is where you see everything.
- Keyboard โ the keys you type letters and numbers on.
- Mouse โ the small device you move to point and click.
- CPU box (or laptop body) โ the main box that holds the 'brain' of the computer.
The parts hidden inside
โถWhat the inside parts do
1. CPU โ the brain
It thinks and does all the work, like adding numbers or opening files.
2. RAM โ short-term memory
It holds whatever you are working on right now. When you switch off, it forgets everything.
3. Hard disk / SSD โ storage
This is where your files stay saved, even after you switch off. Like a big cupboard.
Easy way to remember: RAM is like your work desk (only for today's work). The hard disk / SSD is like a cupboard (keeps things forever).
An SSD is just a newer, faster type of storage than an old hard disk. Both do the same job โ they keep your files safe.
