Three very useful actions

Copy, Cut and Paste help you move text and files quickly, without typing everything again. Once you learn these three, you will save a lot of time at work.

  • Copy โ€” makes a duplicate. The original stays where it is.
  • Cut โ€” picks it up to move it. The original is removed from its old place.
  • Paste โ€” drops the copied or cut item into a new place.

Think of Copy like taking a photo (the real thing stays), and Cut like physically lifting a paper to move it somewhere else.

The shortcut keys

Ctrl+CCopy the selected text or file
Ctrl+XCut the selected text or file
Ctrl+VPaste it into the new place

These work the same way for text inside a document AND for files in a folder. First select the thing, then Copy or Cut, then click where you want it, then Paste.

Always Paste right after you Copy or Cut. If you copy something else in between, the first thing is forgotten.
